Torean and Senaru Climbing Routes on Mount Rinjani Temporarily Closed
The Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) office in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has stated that the Torean and Senaru climbing routes remain temporarily closed due to the impact of forest fire management efforts in the Bukit Setampol and Puncak Sangkareang areas of Mount Rinjani, Lombok.
“The Senaru and Torean trekking routes are still temporarily closed until a time yet to be determined,” said Astekita Ardiarsito, Head of the Administrative Sub-division of the TNGR Office, in Mataram on Wednesday.
He explained that hikers who have already purchased e-tickets via Senaru can reschedule or redirect their entry and exit through the Sembalun route until Senaru is reopened.
“Hikers currently inside who intended to use Senaru or Torean as exit points are being directed to exit via Sembalun, following the instructions of the officers,” he added.
He noted that the fires on the Senaru and Torean routes resulted in surface fires affecting mountain pine fuel, shrubs, bushes, grass, mountain savannah, dry leaves, and other undergrowth vegetation.
“Based on preliminary monitoring up to 29 September 2026, the affected area has reached 1,098.75 hectares, and no new or expanding hotspots have been detected,” said Astekita.
“This figure is still a preliminary estimate and will be updated based on field monitoring, drone documentation, and verification of area boundaries.”
He stated that monitoring of the fire conditions in the area is being conducted via drones from a distance of 350 metres. The remaining hotspots consist of standing trees that were previously burnt, which are currently isolated and not spreading.
“The team remains on alert to anticipate any re-ignition. Surveillance has been strengthened through patrols and baggage inspections,” he said.
The forest fire in Bukit Setampol, Torean Resort, Mount Rinjani, Lombok, occurred on Tuesday (22/9), and officers are still managing the fire, although no new hotspots are currently visible.
