Torang IWIP Foundation Donates Solar Power Plants to Sumenep Communities
Tsingshan Group through the Torang IWIP Berbakti Foundation has donated two Solar Power Generation Plants (PLTS), each equipped with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), to the communities of Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java. The donation, also initiated by Daya Anagata Nusantara (Danantara) Indonesia, is intended to expand access to reliable and sustainable electricity for communities whilst supporting the Indonesian Government’s vision towards energy self-sufficiency.
“We hope that the donation of two PLTS units, each with a capacity of 1 megawatt peak (MWp) and equipped with BESS systems of 4 megawatt hour (MWh) each, can provide stable electricity supplies to communities in two villages in Sumenep Regency, Madura,” said Wahyu Budhi Santoso, Chairman of the Torang IWIP Berbakti Foundation. Tsingshan Group and the Torang IWIP Berbakti Foundation, he added, are committed to supporting the Indonesian Government’s vision of meeting and equalising energy access for all communities.
The donation of the two PLTS units was realised through collaboration between the Torang IWIP Berbakti Foundation, the Sumenep Regency Government, and PT PLN (Persero), formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed on 13 March 2026 at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta. The signing of the agreement was also witnessed by Rosan Roeslani, Chief Executive Officer of Danantara Indonesia, in demonstration of support for collaboration among various stakeholders in expanding access to clean energy for communities.
Rosan appreciated the collaboration between the industrial sector, government, and communities in supporting the development of renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia. “We extend our gratitude and appreciation to the Torang IWIP Berbakti Foundation, the Sumenep Regency Government, and PT PLN (Persero) for their collaboration in realising this demonstration project. This initiative is aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to accelerate Indonesia’s energy transition,” he said.
Sumenep Regent Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo stated that accelerating electricity access in the Sumenep region is indeed a pressing need. “This donation is highly significant as it can drive electrification with benefits directly felt by communities,” he said. The project will be implemented on Gili Labak Island and Pagerungan Kecil Island, Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java, and is estimated to provide electricity to approximately 2,000 households.
The donation reflects the commitment of Tsingshan Group and the Torang IWIP Berbakti Foundation in supporting the vision towards national energy self-sufficiency and expanding electricity access for communities across Indonesia.
