Top! KLH Prepares to Oversee Environmental Management of 72,000 Companies
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Deputy for Pollution Control and Environmental Damage (PPKL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH), Rasio Ridho Sani, openly discussed the increasing concern among business actors in prioritising environmental aspects in Indonesia.
This is evident from the growing number of companies joining the Company Performance Rating Programme (PROPER) each year. This serves as concrete proof of how companies are beginning to realise that environmental aspects are no longer mere additional requirements but have become a primary concern.
“We report that PROPER companies have increased by 22% to 5,476, originating from 200 industrial sectors,” said Rasio at the PROPER Environmental Awards 2025, held at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
Observing this, Rasio continued, his side will continue to encourage the business world to commit and care about preserving the environment. Especially in the midst of the ongoing climate crisis.
Moreover, there are still many companies that have not registered in this programme.
“The Minister has serious attention. In our data, the number of companies that must be supervised is 72,000 companies,” he explained.
It should be noted that PROPER itself was initiated in 1995 and has become an annual agenda to appreciate and motivate business actors to continue contributing to environmental conservation efforts.
With strict criteria and assessments, it is hoped that various companies in Indonesia will become increasingly aware of implementing principles of good governance (transparency, fairness, accountability, and community involvement) in environmental management.
PROPER itself offers many benefits to companies, from environmental to economic aspects. Good ratings can bring advantages, such as public recognition and reduced operational costs through better efficiency. According to records from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the number of PROPER participants has surged by more than 80% in the last four years.
