Top cop warns against mass rallies
JAKARTA: National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar appealed to all quarters on Friday not to hold mass rallies during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) in August.
"Differences of opinion yes, but mass mobilizations should be avoided because it could create undesired consequences," Da'i said here.
The 700-strong Assembly, the country's highest legislative body, will hold its Annual Session in August, during which it is expected to endorse amendments to the 1945 Constitution.
Political parties have openly expressed their differences over a number of issues related to the amendments, raising fears of conflicts among their supporters. --Antara
