Top 5 Largest Investors in Indonesia: Number 1 is a Close Neighbour
Indonesia successfully secured investment funds totalling Rp 498.8 trillion throughout the first quarter (January-March) 2026. Of this amount, Rp 250 trillion, or 50.1%, came from foreign investments, known as foreign direct investment (FDI).
When discussing foreign investment, China is often mentioned as the country injecting the most funds into the nation. However, in reality, the largest investment comes from Indonesia’s close neighbour.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani stated that over the past ten years, the country investing the most money in Indonesia has been Singapore.
In fact, in the first quarter of 2026, the Lion City invested US$4.6 billion, equivalent to approximately Rp 75.9 trillion (using the state budget exchange rate of Rp 16,500 per US dollar). This amount is twice as large as the funds injected by China into Indonesia.
“Indeed, if we look at the past ten years, Singapore has consistently been the largest FDI contributor to Indonesia, with approximately US$4.6 billion,” he said during a press conference on the first quarter 2026 investment realisation achievements at the Ministry of Investment office in Central Jakarta, on Thursday (23/4/2026).
In second place is Hong Kong, with an investment contribution of US$2.7 billion, equivalent to Rp 44.55 trillion. In third place is China, with investments of US$2.2 billion, or Rp 36.3 trillion.
Fourth is the United States (US) with investments of US$1.3 billion. And in fifth place is Japan with investments of US$1 billion.
“Other countries such as South Korea, Malaysia, and the Netherlands follow in the subsequent rankings,” Rosan explained.
For information, the investment realisation in the first quarter of 2026, totalling Rp 498.8 trillion, recorded a 7.2% year-on-year (yoy) increase from the previous Rp 465.2 trillion. Meanwhile, on a quarter-to-quarter (qtq) basis, investment realisation rose 0.4% compared to the fourth quarter of 2025, which was Rp 496.9 trillion.
“This also represents approximately 24.4% of the 2026 investment target. And importantly, the job absorption is 706,569 people, or an 18.9% increase compared to the previous year,” Rosan clarified.
In detail, the investments consist of foreign investments or foreign direct investment (FDI) amounting to Rp 250 trillion, or 50.1%. Meanwhile, domestic investments (DI) account for 49.9%, or Rp 248.8 trillion.
Furthermore, in terms of regional investments, outside Java Island, investments reached Rp 251.3 trillion. This figure is higher than investments in Java Island, which amounted to Rp 247.5 trillion.
