PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded the 10 stations with the highest long-distance train passenger movements throughout the first half of 2026, totalling 23,156,353 passengers boarding and alighting. The data was calculated from passengers boarding and alighting at stations during the January–June 2026 period. The high passenger movement at major stations demonstrates the role of trains in connecting people with various destinations, ranging from family trips, work, education, and business to tourism. This activity also benefits the areas surrounding the stations, particularly through passenger movement towards hotels, culinary spots, souvenir centres, onward transport, tourist destinations, and local businesses around the station area. The top 10 stations with the highest long-distance train passenger movements in the first half of 2026 are: 1. Pasar Senen Station: 3,849,606 passengers boarding and alighting; 2. Gambir Station: 3,227,508 passengers boarding and alighting; 3. Yogyakarta Station: 3,217,240 passengers boarding and alighting; 4. Semarang Tawang Station: 2,152,894 passengers boarding and alighting; 5. Surabaya Gubeng Station: 1,904,845 passengers boarding and alighting; 6. Purwokerto Station: 1,839,475 passengers boarding and alighting; 7. Surabaya Pasarturi Station: 1,823,529 passengers boarding and alighting; 8. Semarang Poncol Station: 1,740,518 passengers boarding and alighting; 9. Solo Balapan Station: 1,706,290 passengers boarding and alighting; 10. Bandung Station: 1,694,448 passengers boarding and alighting. KAI Vice President Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that passenger movement data at stations reflects the importance of trains in supporting public mobility while driving economic activity in destination cities. ‘Stations with the highest movement are generally located in cities that are centres of government, economy, education, culture, and tourism. Every passenger arriving at and departing from a station helps drive many activities in the surrounding area, from onward transport, culinary businesses, and accommodation to souvenir centres and local entrepreneurs,’ said Anne. First place was occupied by Pasar Senen Station with 3,849,606 passengers boarding and alighting. Located in Central Jakarta, this station is the busiest long-distance train station in Indonesia for the first half of 2026. Pasar Senen serves many journeys to various cities on Java Island. The high passenger movement at this station also enlivens activities in the surrounding area, such as onward transport, culinary businesses, accommodation, and public travel needs. In second place is Gambir Station with 3,227,508 passengers boarding and alighting. Also located in Central Jakarta, this station holds a strategic position as it is close to the government centre, business districts, hotels, offices, Monas, and various city tourist destinations. Gambir is one of the main gateways for long-distance train travel from the capital, especially for business, official, tourist, and family travellers. Third place is occupied by Yogyakarta Station with 3,217,240 passengers boarding and alighting. Furthermore, Semarang Tawang Station is in fourth place with 2,152,894 passengers boarding and alighting. Located in Semarang City, this station is a key point on Java’s northern railway line. Fifth place is occupied by Surabaya Gubeng Station with 1,904,845 passengers boarding and alighting. Located in Surabaya City, this station is one of the main hubs for long-distance train travel in East Java.
