Top 10 Largest Corn-Producing Provinces in Indonesia, Spread Across Java-Sulawesi
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - National dry shelled corn production in early 2026 still shows concentration on Java Island. BPS data for the period January to May 2026 indicates that provinces in Java dominate the list of Indonesia’s largest corn producers.
Based on accumulated production over the first five months of 2026, East Java is recorded as the largest producer, followed by Central Java. This dominance reaffirms the role of the Java region as the backbone of national corn production, although contributions from regions outside Java are beginning to show significant increases.
Largest Corn Production
The largest corn production during January-May 2026 was recorded in East Java with a total of around 1.56 million tonnes, far surpassing other provinces. In second place, Central Java recorded production of around 922,000 tonnes.
Lampung is in third place with production of around 700,000 tonnes. The wide production gap between the first rank and other provinces highlights the strong dominance of East Java as the main centre of national corn production.
Corn Production Comparison
Compared to the same period the previous year, corn production in several major provinces shows varied dynamics.
East Java, for example, experienced a decline from around 1.82 million tonnes in January-May 2025 to 1.56 million tonnes in 2026, though it still maintains its position as the national largest producer. A similar trend is seen in Central Java, which dropped from 1.02 million tonnes to around 922,000 tonnes.
On the other hand, some regions recorded role shifts. Lampung saw a significant increase from around 512,000 tonnes in 2025 to 700,000 tonnes in 2026, thus rising to the top three.
Meanwhile, West Nusa Tenggara, which recorded high production of around 756,000 tonnes in 2025, dropped to around 649,000 tonnes in 2026. This change indicates a redistribution of national corn production centres, amid seasonal fluctuations and weather factors affecting harvest yields.
