Top 10 Coal Companies in Indonesia by Production Volume

Jakarta - Indonesia’s national coal mining industry is entering a critical phase of policy transition. Last Wednesday, the government formally announced the establishment of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia ( DSi), a new agency designed to operate as a single export channel for strategic commodities, with coal being a primary focus alongside palm oil and ferro alloys.

This centralised export policy will require all mining companies to channel their export volumes through an integrated system managed by DSi. The move aims to enhance transparency in commodity trading, optimise foreign exchange earnings, and strengthen oversight of energy commodity flows abroad, following government findings of widespread under invoicing and transfer pricing practices.

Based on 2025 annual reports, the top 10 coal-producing listed companies remain dominated by large-cap firms. Their operational performance will determine their roles in the national export supply chain under DSi’s new mechanism.

PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI) retains the top position with a production volume of 74.8 million tons, cementing its role as a key energy supplier expected to have a significant share in exports facilitated by DSi. Second-placed PT Adaro Andalan Indonesia Tbk (AADI) recorded 68.73 million tons, while PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN) ranked third with 68 million tons.

Fourth place went to PT Dian Swastatika Sentosa Tbk (DSSA), which reported consolidated production of 57.2 million tons across all subsidiaries. State-owned PT Bukit Asam Tbk ( PTBA) fifth with 47.1 million tons, followed by PT Indika Energy Tbk ( INDY) at 30.5 million tons, and PT Indo Tambangraya Megah Tbk (ITMG) with 21.2 million tons.

PT Baramulti Suksessarana Tbk (BSSR) produced 17.84 million tons, PT Prima Andalan Mandiri Tbk (MCOL) 9.28 million tons, and PT Adaro Minerals Indonesia Tbk (ADMR) 7.41 million tons to complete the top 10.

Moving forward, DSi’s single export mechanism is expected to align with these production capacities to maintain stability in Indonesia’s mining sector.
