President Prabowo Subianto shared an inspiring story during the ‘Building Indonesia’s Future Generations Through Nutrition’ event held at the Sentul International Convention Center, Bogor Regency, on Wednesday. During the occasion, he specifically introduced Tony Robbins, the successful American motivator and entrepreneur whom he described as a close friend.

Prabowo explained that Robbins was invited to share perspectives on leadership, overcoming adversity, and resilience in the face of life’s challenges. He noted that many of the motivator’s thoughts align with his own views. “Today, I have invited a motivator, a successful business figure from the United States who has become a friend of mine. I have asked him to provide his views and opinions on leadership and facing difficulties and challenges,” Prabowo stated, as seen on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.

The Head of State then recounted the motivator’s background, noting that he comes from a very humble family and faced significant economic hardships during his childhood. “Many of his views are the same as mine. He comes from a very poor family. If I am not mistaken, his parents were parking attendants in the United States. But he has now become one of the wealthiest people in the world,” said Prabowo.

However, he emphasised that Robbins’ success is not measured solely by material wealth. He noted that the motivator possesses high social concern, particularly regarding global hunger issues. “He is also one of the pioneers in providing food to hungry people worldwide, not just in his own country. I met him because he heard about our programme,” Prabowo continued.

Prabowo then recounted a childhood experience of Robbins that served as a turning point in his concern for food security. He described a moment during a Thanksgiving celebration in the United States when Robbins’ family had no food on their table. “His family had no food at all. Suddenly, someone arrived, perhaps having heard from neighbours that the family had nothing to eat. That person provided food. His father was angry at the time, perhaps out of shame, and did not want to accept the food, but was forced to. From that point, as he grew into the person he is today, he has always thought of those who go hungry,” Prabowo remarked.

He assessed that there is a convergence of values and perspectives between himself and the motivator, particularly regarding food security and humanitarian issues. “Thus, there is a meeting of values, views, and philosophy.”

Tony Robbins is known as an international motivator, author, and speaker, widely recognised for his work in personal development and his philanthropic activities, including food assistance programmes for underprivileged communities globally.
