Tony Blair Meets Danantara to Discuss Investment, Downstreaming, and SOE Transformation

The Indonesian Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara hosted former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his team from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) on Tuesday. The meeting explored strategic cooperation opportunities to accelerate the transformation of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and enhance Indonesia’s global economic competitiveness. The gathering was attended by Danantara CEO and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Roeslani, Head of the SOE Management Agency and Danantara COO Dony Oskaria, and Danantara CIO Pandu Sjahrir. Both parties explored potential collaboration in national priority sectors, including strengthening corporate governance, accelerating industrial downstreaming, infrastructure development, digital transformation, economic zone development, and institutional capacity building through TBI’s international experience. The collaboration is expected to bring best practices in investment and state corporate management, while opening wider access to quality investment from the global network of the Tony Blair Institute. Dony Oskaria, Head of the SOE Management Agency and COO of Danantara, stated that partnerships with international institutions are part of the strategy to accelerate SOE reform. ‘We want the SOE transformation to proceed faster. Therefore, it is important for us to open collaboration spaces with global partners like the Tony Blair Institute. There is much experience and many practices we can adapt to achieve optimal results and provide added value for Indonesia,’ Dony said. Danantara believes that cooperation with international institutions will help accelerate the implementation of strategic government programmes, particularly in driving long-term investment and enhancing the competitiveness of the national industrial sector. Digital transformation, governance strengthening, and downstream project development are considered key factors for SOEs to compete in the global market while supporting national economic growth targets. The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, a non-profit organisation founded by the former British Prime Minister, has partnered with various countries to provide assistance on government reform, public service digitalisation, investment development, and economic transformation. In recent years, TBI has also engaged in policy discussions with the Indonesian government regarding investment strengthening, digital economy development, energy transition, and improving the business climate. The government hopes the synergy between Danantara and the Tony Blair Institute will strengthen the quality of state investment management and accelerate the realisation of strategic projects that are national development priorities. Through this collaboration, Danantara aims to build a more professional, transparent, and globally competitive SOE ecosystem that serves as a sustainable engine for Indonesia’s economic growth.
