Tons of used medical gloves rejected
THAILAND: Bangkok will ask the country of origin of two tons of used medical gloves abandoned at a port to take back the waste, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said on Thursday amid increased concerns about dumping.
Thaksin did not say where the rubber gloves had come from, but it was widely reported in the Thai-language media that they came from Britain.
The used and possibly contaminated gloves, packed into hundreds of dusty cement bags, have been in a warehouse in Bangkok's Klong Toey port since June last year after the local importer did not collect them.
Klong Toey is also holding almost 1,000 used tires, according to reports. Five containers of scrapped engines, batteries and old tires were also found dumped in Samut Prakan, north of Bangkok, on Monday. --AFP
