Tomorrow, Komdigi to Summon Wikipedia Threatened with Blocking in Indonesia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that the Komdigi Ministry will meet with the Wikipedia Indonesia side on Thursday (23/4/2026). Meutya promised to convey developments regarding Wikipedia Indonesia, which is threatened with blocking, once the meeting is complete. “Wikipedia, there will be a meeting tomorrow, there will be a summons conducted tomorrow. We’ll inform the updates later,” Meutya said during a press conference at the Komdigi office in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (22/4/2026). This is because Wikipedia has not registered and complied with the obligations of an Electronic System Organiser (PSE). “The Wikimedia Project website, including Wikipedia, will be blocked by Komdigi within seven working days if it does not register as a private scope PSE in Indonesia,” explained the official X account @idwiki, Wednesday (15/4/2026). According to Wikipedia, the PSE is considered a form of censorship in the digital space. “In the final extension period, namely seven days, the Wikimedia Foundation is expected to promptly complete the PSE registration process in accordance with applicable provisions. If there is still no compliance with Indonesian law, we will take firm action in the form of blocking,” said Alex.
