Police will question the foreman of a building project on Jalan TB Simatupang in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026), following the deaths of four of his workers.

The foreman ordered his workers to assist in evacuating a worker who fell into a water reservoir on Friday (3/4/2026).

Due to not using protective equipment, four workers were reported dead, while three others experienced shortness of breath from inhaling gas from the reservoir.

So far, three witnesses have been examined by police in the investigation into the deaths of the four workers. The project foreman will be the fourth tomorrow.

One aspect to be explored during the examination of the foreman includes the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) at the construction site.

“Yes, including the implementation of K3,” said Nurma.

Nurma has not detailed the chronology of the incident, including the type of gas that caused three victims to suffer shortness of breath, as it is still under police investigation.

The four deceased victims are initialled YN (32), MW (62), TS (63), and MF (19).

Meanwhile, the three other workers are suspected of inhaling gas from inside the water reservoir, leading to shortness of breath. They are U (41), AJ (37), and S (63).

Currently, the four bodies of the victims are still undergoing autopsy.

One of his colleagues who tried to provide assistance instead fell into the hole.

The situation worsened when other workers attempted evacuation in turns.

According to a statement from one witness initialled DPA who was also ordered to help with the evacuation, the conditions around the reservoir hole felt abnormal.

“During the evacuation of the victim, the witness felt heat and stuffiness around the manhole,” said Nurma, quoting the witness’s statement.

It is suspected that the dangerous gas accumulated in the water reservoir was the main cause of the victims losing consciousness and ultimately dying.
