Tommy hospitalized again

JAKARTA: The youngest son of former president Soeharto, Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra, was reportedly taken to the Army's Gatot Subroto Hospital in Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, for the further examination of a suspected tumor behind one of his eyes.

Now an inmate of the Nusakambangan island prison in Central Java, Tommy has been given one week for the medical examination, said his lawyer Elza Syarief. "But doctors said the examination could take one month to complete," he added.

Tommy was convicted for the murder of a Supreme Court judge who sent him to jail for a graft case and also for illegal arms possession.

According to Tempo News Room, in contrast to the scene at the hospital last month when Tomy underwent an examination there, no security guards were observed in the vicinity of the hospital.

Tommy's elder sister Siti Hutami "Mamiek" Endang Adiningsih was the first to visit him. Elza said the rest of the family would visit later that day, including his father. Meanwhile, Siti Hardiyanti Hastuti "Tutut" Rukmana -- presidential hopeful and Tomy's eldest sister -- was campaigning for the Concern for the Nation Functional Party (PKPB). -- JP
