Goalie sets up game-winner
CALGARY, Alberta (Reuter): Calgary goaltender Trevor Kidd stopped 24 shots and set up Ronnie Stern's game-winning short- handed goal as the Flames beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 in a battle of Western Conference division leaders on Saturday.
The Flames won their third straight game and prevented Detroit from clinching the Central Division title.

Rockets down Spurs
HOUSTON, Texas (Reuter): The Houston Rockets were on-guard and on their game in a key Midwest Division victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.
Rockets guards Vernon Maxwell and Kenny Smith combined for 49 points to lead Houston to a 100-89 win against San Antonio and boost the Rockets' lead to two games over the Spurs.

Fraser puts England ahead
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AFP): Angus Fraser produced a devastating post-tea burst to claim four wickets for just one run in 17 balls to put England in control after two days of the fourth cricket test against the West Indies at the Kensington Oval here on Saturday.
Fraser ended with figers of six for 47 - his sixth five-wicket haul in fifteen Tests, as the West Indies were reduced to 134-7 in response to England's first innings of 355.
And although Shivnarine Chanderpaul (31) and Curtly Ambrose (35) then put together an unbroken stand of 54 for the eighth wicket to avert the possibly of the follow-on, the home side ended the day at 188-7, still trailing by 167. Milan inches closer to title
ROME (AFP): AC Milan edged closer to its third consecutive Italian league title on Saturday, when they drew 0-0 with Torino.
The result means it could be crowned champions as early as Sunday, should second-placed Juventus be beaten by Napoli and Sampdoria fail to win their derby against Genoa.
Milan is currently seven points clear of Juve, who have four matches still to play, and are eight points clear of Sampdoria. Either way, it takes a brave man to bet against Milan being champions.
Marseille slips up
PARIS (AFP): Olympique Marseille missed their chance to close the gap on French league leaders Paris St Germain on Saturday night, when its slumped to a 1-0 defeat at relegation strugglers Caen.
The Normandy club's Russian import Alexander Mostovoi scored the winner in the 39th minute, the first time his side have beaten Bernard Tapie's since Caen joined the first division six years ago.
Despite the win, Caen remain 16th in the 20-team table.
The result means that PSG, which plays Monaco on April 17, remains five points clear at the top and is now virtually certain of winning the title.
Tyson receives favorable ruling
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (UPI): The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the judge who presided over former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson's rape Trial must review claims that the woman Tyson was convicted of raping had also falsely accused a high school classmate of rape.
The Appeals Court said that Marion Superior Court Judge Patricia Gifford must consider Tyson's second motion for post- conviction relief, originally filed Feb. 26, 1993.
According to that motion, in 1989 Desiree Washington falsely accused Wayne Walker, a Rhode Island classmate, of rape.
Jansher extends unbeaten run
LONDON (Reuter): Top seed Jansher Khan continued his imperious progress towards a third successive British Open e on Saturday with a 9-2 9-4 9-5 victory over fifth seed Rodney Eyles of Australia.
The world champion, who has yet to drop a game, now meets fourth seed Peter Marshall of England on Sunday for a place in the final.
Eyles has recorded a victory over Jansher, and took a game off him in last week's Austrian Open final in Linz. But he was always on the receiving end in London. Russia wins Seoul Women's road relay
SEOUL (Kyodo): Natalia Solominskaya overtook a South Korean runner in the third-leg Sunday to lead Russia to victory in the 1994 Seoul International Women's Ekiden Road Relay.
The seven-woman Russian squad covered the 42.195-kilometer regular marathon distance in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 16 seconds.
While Russia allowed a narrow lead to Mexico in the first leg and to South Korea in the second leg, Solominskaya caught South Korean Yeon Hwang Keum after 6 kilometers into the 8-kilometer third leg, helping Russia take a commanding lead for good.
Mansell crashes in late practice
PHOENIX, Arizona (Reuter): With just five minutes left in the final practice for Sunday's 200-mile IndyCar race at Phoenix International Raceway, Nigel Mansell crashed on the same turn where he was seriously injured last year.
Mansell, who had qualified third in a Lola Ford Cosworth earlier on Saturday, spun at turn four and took the Reynard Ford Cosworth of second place qualifier Jacques Villenueve of Canada with him.
Both cars were damaged, but neither driver was hurt. Mansell even went back out onto the track in his back-up car for the closing minutes of the session.
