Jaya Group to go public

Twelve firms under the PT Pembangunan Jaya group, a widely diversified business group jointly owned by the municipal administration, prominent businessmen and various foundations, will go public to acquire funds for expansion of their operations.

One of the 12 firms is PT Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, the company managing Ancol Dreamland.

Ciputra, the president of the PT Pembangunan Jaya Group, said yesterday that Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has approved a group management plan to sell shares of the 12 companies on the stock exchange before the year 2000.

The 12 firms deal in real estate, construction, manufacturing, trading and tourism.

Funds from the sales of the 12 firms' shares, which are estimated to reach Rp 3 trillion, will be used to expand the group's business activities.

Forty percent of the Jaya Group is owned by the Jakarta city administration, while the remaining 60 percent is owned by several prominent businessmen, including Ciputra and Hasjim Ning. Various foundations also share ownership, including Yayasan BNI 46, Yayasan Bumiputera and Yayasan Marga Jaya.

Ciputra also announced that the Jaya Group has established a joint-venture company with PT Jaya Marley Indonesia, which is involved in the development of a cooling tower, to anticipate a government plan to build geothermal power plants in several locations in the country.

"This (geothermal power plants) project needs cooling towers, which, up until now, have been imported from foreign countries," Ciputra said. (has)

Women urged to overcome stress

Jakarta women should learn to anticipate and deal with stress so their families can develop harmonious and happy lives.

"Life in Jakarta requires good management, psychological control and sound methods for facing the numerous challenges in this complex city," Surjadi Soedirdja, chief of the motivation team for the Jakarta chapter of the government-sponsored PKK (Family Welfare Education) women's organization, in her presentation at a seminar here yesterday.

The seminar, entitled The Capabilities of Stress-free Women in Jakarta, was organized by several agencies, including Kartini magazine, the Equilibria foundation and the Profession Club.

Surjadi proposed a religious approach to overcoming stress.

"A good relationship in the family and community results from good communication and a strong religious life," Surjadi was quoted by Antara as saying.

She also stressed the importance of women developing their own personalities in all fields through lifelong education.

According to Rini Sunyoto, the chief of the organizing committee, the one-day seminar, which was attended by dozens of participants, was intended to widen women's perspective on stress.(jsk)

City Police spokesman Lt. Col. A. Latief Rabar was installed as head of sub-agency for Documentation and Research of the Information Service yesterday.

He was installed during a ceremony at National Police Headquarters and will replace Col. Suyitno.

The ceremony was presided over by Chief of the Information Service, Brig. Gen. I.K. Ratta.
