PROPHET OF DESTRUCTION: Famous poet WS Rendra expressively
gestures to an audience of around 300 people at the Jakarta Arts
Center, Central Jakarta. Rendra read two poems Tuesday evening
during his presentation organized by the Indonesian Anti-Nuclear
Society (MANI) observing the anniversary of the 1986 Chernobyl
nuclear plant explosion. The poet also used the forum titled
Between Chernobyl and Muria to express opposition against the
controversial government plan to establish a Rp 2.4 trillion
(US$1.17 billion) nuclear plant in the Muria Peninsula, Central
Java.
