The government through the Ministry of Public Works (PU) has officially announced a toll tariff discount policy for the Lebaran exodus period in 2026. In contrast to previous years, the discount amount has increased to 30 per cent to encourage the public to undertake Lebaran travel earlier.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo disclosed that the toll tariff discount is scheduled to take effect nine days before Eid al-Fitr 2026. This measure has been adopted as a principal strategy to ease the potential congestion of vehicles during peak exodus traffic.

“From day eight to day nine before Eid, as I recall, the discounts will apply. All toll road sections, just like last year, exactly the same. Only if last year the toll tariff discount was 20 per cent, now it has been increased to 30 per cent,” said Dody Hanggodo when making a statement in Semarang, Central Java, on Sunday (1 March).

Dody emphasised that the provision of this discount aims to provide an incentive for travellers so that departures do not concentrate on a single departure time.

“In that way, we hope travellers can leave earlier, and likewise the return journey can also occur earlier,” he added.

This policy is an integral part of the first-quarter 2026 economic stimulus package that the government has prepared with a total value reaching Rp12.83 trillion. This stimulus is designed to maintain economic stability and public purchasing power during the February to March 2026 period.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto previously explained that from the total budget, Rp200 billion was specifically allocated for transportation discount subsidies, including toll tariff reductions and public transport fares. Meanwhile, the largest portion, approximately Rp12 trillion, was allocated for the distribution of social assistance to the public.

The government hopes that with the certainty of the toll tariff discount schedule announced well in advance, the public can plan their travel more carefully, so that comfort and safety during the 2026 Lebaran exodus period can be maintained properly.
