Toll Road Sumo Traffic Volume Rises 25 Percent Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H
Surabaya (ANTARA) - Traffic volume on the Surabaya-Mojokerto (Sumo) toll road in East Java rose by 25.3 percent during the H-10 to H-2 period ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, with a total of 433,227 vehicles entering and exiting Surabaya on 11-19 March 2026.
“There was a significant surge in traffic volume on the Surabaya-Mojokerto (Sumo) toll road section during this mudik period, dominated by the movement of returnees heading to hometowns in various parts of East Java and vice versa,” said PT Jasamarga Surabaya Mojokerto (JSM) President Director D. Hari Pratama in a statement in Surabaya on Friday.
PT Jasamarga Surabaya Mojokerto (JSM) recorded that during this period, the volume of vehicles entering Surabaya via the Warugunung toll gate reached 211,568 units, an increase of 18.9 percent compared to normal conditions of 177,924 vehicles.
Meanwhile, vehicles leaving Surabaya were recorded at 221,659 units, or up 32.2 percent from normal traffic of 167,743 vehicles.
Hari assured that optimal services continue to be provided to road users during this peak mudik period for Eid 2026.
According to him, although vehicle volume increased sharply, the V/C ratio (vehicle volume compared to road capacity) remained within safe limits, and queues at toll gates were well-managed.
“This shows that the Sumo toll road is increasingly relied upon as the main route for smooth mudik connectivity between regions,” he stated.
PT Jasamarga Surabaya Mojokerto (JSM) advised toll road users to prioritise driving safety by obeying traffic signs, maintaining safe distances, and following instructions from on-site officers.
Users were also reminded to ensure sufficient electronic money balance and fuel before entering the toll road to avoid obstacles at the toll gates.
