Tofu Seller Mugged in Cakung; Suspect Arrested After Resisting Police

A tofu vendor named Kusnadi (26) was the victim of a mugging on Jalan Tipar Cakung, East Jakarta. The incident occurred on Monday morning (20/7) when a man on a Honda PCX motorcycle approached him. Initially thinking the man was a customer, the victim was caught off guard when the perpetrator snatched his sling bag, which contained a wallet, and sped off. The victim gave chase and shouted ‘jambret’ (mugger), but the suspect escaped. The case was reported to the Cakung Police, who processed the crime scene and reviewed CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator.

A day later, on Tuesday (21/7) at around 10 p.m. local time, police received a report from the head of the local neighbourhood association (RT 005/006 Penggilingan) about a dispute between the victim and the suspected perpetrator, identified by the initials AA alias F. The victim had encountered the suspect on the street in front of the RT head’s house, leading to an altercation. The suspect was reportedly in a rage when police arrived at the scene. He initially denied the mugging, continued to act aggressively, and refused to be taken to the Cakung Police station before officers eventually subdued and detained him.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s rented room on Jalan Raya Penggilingan, witnessed by local officials, uncovered the victim’s sling bag and wallet on top of a refrigerator. The victim’s original SIM C (driving licence) was found inside the wallet, but his Vivo 17 S mobile phone and Rp 3 million in cash were missing. The Honda PCX motorcycle allegedly used in the crime was not found at the property; police only discovered a Yamaha Fino, the ownership of which is currently under investigation.
