A toddler who disappeared after being swept away by the current of the Bima River in Desa Rato, Kecamatan Bolo, Kabupaten Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has been found dead after three days of searches conducted by a joint team.

The victim, MI, aged 3, was found alive no more after this morning, according to Nurul Huda, Head of Emergency and Logistics at the BPBD Kabupaten Bima, confirmed to detikBali on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

Huda said the body was found in a non-living condition near the Desa Sondosia bridge, Kecamatan Bolo, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. “The victim’s body was found about five kilometres from the site where he was swept away by the river at Dusun Kampung Sigi, Desa Rato,” he added.

Following the discovery, MI’s body was evacuated by residents together with the Joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team and immediately taken to the family home in Dusun Kampung Sigi, Desa Rato for handover to his family.

“The victim will be buried today at the Kampung Sigi Public Cemetery (TPU), Desa Rato,” Nurul Huda explained.

AKP Hari Purnomo, Head of the Water Police Unit (Polairud) of the Bima Police, said the victim was first found by a resident who was sitting on a bridge in Desa Sondosia. Seeing a body floating downstream, several residents descended to recover the body and hand it over to Danpos Daru.

Upon receiving the information, Hari said, officers along with the SAR team went to the location and to MI’s home in Dusun Kampung Sigi, Desa Rato. After initial identification, the family confirmed that the recovered body was MI.

“The body recovered is MI, the victim swept away by the river whose search lasted three days by the Joint SAR Team,” he said.

Earlier reports stated that MI was reported missing after being swept away by the river in Dusun Kampung Sigi, Desa Rato, on Monday afternoon. Before he disappeared, MI and friends were cycling to the river to bathe.

“While bathing in the river, MI disappeared and was declared missing,” he added.
