SEMARANG, Central Java: A three-year-old kid was buried in a landslide caused by heavy flooding in Genuk Krajan village here on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Dewi, was found among the remnants of her damaged house, Harini, spokesman of the Semarang administration, said on Friday.

Besides inundating Semarang, heavy rainfall also caused flooding in Kudus and Kebumen.

Soetaryo, spokesman of the Kudus regency, said that flooding, which reached 50 centimeters in depth, inundated several elementary and junior high school buildings in the city.

Many offices were closed on Thursday, he said.

He explained that the flooding was caused by the damage to the nearby river bank.

In Kebumen the flooding damaged 44 houses. "There was no fatality," Kebumen Regent Amin Sudibyo said, adding that the damaged houses were located in Kebumen, Panjer and Tawanminangun villages. (hhr)
