Toddler in Mother's Lap Among Three Killed as Truck Crushes Sedan in Karawang

Jakarta — A container truck crushed a sedan in Karawang, West Java, killing three people. The victims comprised a father, mother, and their child.

Karawang Police traffic unit chief AKP Sudirianto said the accident occurred when a trailer truck with registration number B-9107-UEI fell onto a Toyota Corolla sedan with registration number T-1275-KN that was travelling along the road. Six people were injured in the accident.

Of the six victims, three were pronounced dead at the scene. They were the driver, who was also the father of the family, his wife who was seated in the front passenger seat, and a toddler who was sitting in the mother’s lap.

“Three people died — the driver, the father of the family, the mother, and one toddler who was in the mother’s lap,” Sudirianto said.

The three other victims survived. They were teenagers seated in the second row of the vehicle and were also family members.

“The survivors are currently receiving intensive care at Lira Medika Hospital, whilst the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Karawang Regional General Hospital for autopsy,” he said.

Sudirianto said the police were still compiling the full identities of all victims. However, he confirmed that all victims were residents of Block H, Citra Kebun Mas Housing Estate, Bengle Village, Majalaya District.
