Toddler found dead in Bekasi after suspected murder by uncle with mental illness
A two-year-old toddler was found dead with multiple stab wounds, suspected to have been murdered by his uncle, identified as G (18), in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java. Police stated that G has a mental health disorder, referred to as ODGJ.
Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Bekasi City Police, said the victim was discovered dead alongside his uncle in a rented room. The child had multiple stab wounds, while the uncle sustained stab wounds on his chest and both cheeks.
Andi stated that the uncle is currently receiving medical treatment in critical condition. Police suspect the uncle brutally murdered the child.
“He is still receiving hospital treatment. We are still investigating, but he remains a suspect. We are waiting for his condition to stabilise before taking his statement. He has been given medication. Insha’Allah, we will proceed with questioning once he recovers,” Andi said on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
He also revealed that G has a mental health disorder and had previously been taken to a psychiatrist, regularly taking medication. The child and G were being cared for by the victim’s grandmother.
“Yes, based on our investigation and field inquiries, we also received information from the mother. The child had previously been taken to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with a mental health disorder, requiring regular medication,” Andi said.
However, for the past two days, the uncle had not taken his medication because the grandmother could not afford to buy it.
“The mother could not afford to purchase the medication for the past two days,” he added.
Earlier reports stated that the victim’s body was found on Wednesday, 27 May, in a room of a rented house alongside his uncle.
“Yes, correct. The child was found with stab wounds. He was discovered with his uncle in the room of a rented house that includes a kitchen and bedroom,” he said.
Andi stated the child sustained over ten stab wounds and cuts on his cheeks, while the uncle had stab wounds on his chest and cheeks.
“The wounds were on his head, face, body, and groin. There were numerous stab and slash wounds. His cheeks were slashed open, exposing his mouth. I believe there were more than ten wounds,” he explained.
“The uncle’s wounds were on his chest and both cheeks,” he added.
