Toddler Found Dead After Suspected Murder by Mentally Ill Uncle in Bekasi
A two-year-old toddler was found dead with over a dozen stab wounds, suspected to have been murdered by his uncle with a mental health disorder, identified as G (18), in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java. The victim was initially discovered by his grandmother, identified as M, who regularly cared for both the child and his uncle.
Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Bekasi City Metropolitan Police, stated that the toddler had been living with his grandmother and uncle. The child had been under the grandmother’s care since two weeks old.
‘Yes, the child has been entrusted to her care. The toddler has been living with her since two weeks after birth, so the grandmother has been the primary caregiver,’ Andi said on Thursday, 28 May 2025.
Police explained that M sells baking ingredients to make ends meet. She leaves in the morning and returns in the evening. On Wednesday, 27 May, around 10pm WIB, M discovered the child dead and her son covered in blood.
‘M tried to unlock the rental room but found it locked. After using a spare key, she saw the child, referred to as A, and her son, SG, lying on the floor. The child had intestines protruding, while SG was attempting suicide and was rushed to hospital,’ she said.
The grandmother found a knife near the child’s body but washed it out of panic.
‘Yes, she washed the knife due to shock, reflex, and spontaneity. She immediately cleaned it,’ Andi said.
‘The knife was found at the rental property. Yes, the knife was found near the victim,’ he added.
The victim’s body was discovered on Wednesday, 27 May, in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City, West Java. The child was found alongside his uncle, identified as G (18), in a rental room.
‘Yes, correct. The victim was found with stab wounds. He was found with his uncle. They were discovered in the room. It was a rental unit with a kitchen and bedroom combined,’ he explained.
Andi stated the victim sustained over a dozen stab wounds and slash marks on the face, while the uncle had stab wounds on his chest and cheeks.
‘The wounds were on the head, face, body, and groin area. There were numerous stab and slash wounds. The child’s cheek was slashed open, exposing the mouth. I believe there were more than ten wounds,’ he explained.
‘The uncle’s stab wounds were on his chest and both cheeks,’ he added.
Andi said the uncle is currently receiving medical treatment due to critical condition. Police suspect him as the suspect in the murder.
‘He remains in hospital treatment. We are still investigating, but he is the suspect. We are waiting for his condition to stabilise as he was critical last night. Medication has been administered. Insha’Allah, we will proceed to take his statement once he recovers,’ he said.
Uncle Suffers from Mental Illness
Andi stated that, according to the grandmother’s account, the uncle had previously been taken to a psychiatrist and suffers from mental illness.
‘Yes, based on our investigation and field inquiries, we also received information from the grandmother. He had been taken to a psychiatrist before and has a mental illness, regularly taking medication,’ he said.
However, for the past two days, the uncle has not taken his medication because the grandmother could not afford to buy it.
‘For the past two days, he has not taken his medication as the grandmother had no money to buy more,’ he concluded.
