Today, the Journey on KA Bangunkarta and Singasari Trains Becomes More Comfortable with the New Generation Stainless Steel Fleet
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is introducing service improvements on the KA Bangunkarta route between Pasar Senen and Jombang (return) and the KA Singasari route between Pasar Senen and Blitar (return) through the use of new-generation stainless steel trainsets starting today, 15 April 2026. Long-distance journeys on these two routes now feel more comfortable with a more modern train atmosphere and more spacious interiors.
KA Bangunkarta and KA Singasari have long been part of the public’s travel experience. KA Bangunkarta originated from the KA Tebuireng service in 1985, serving Jombang–Jakarta, and has since evolved to meet customer needs over time. Meanwhile, KA Singasari continues a long history from previous services that once traversed long routes across Java, now serving Blitar–Pasar Senen.
With continuously increasing mobility, facility upgrades are being implemented to ensure journeys remain comfortable and meet customer expectations. On these services, new-generation stainless steel trainsets are used for the following journeys:
• KA 161 Bangunkarta route Jombang–Pasar Senen
• KA 162 Bangunkarta route Pasar Senen–Jombang
• KA 149 Singasari route Blitar–Pasar Senen
• KA 150 Singasari route Pasar Senen–Blitar
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that this enhancement is part of ongoing service renewal efforts.
“KAI is implementing a procurement programme for 612 stainless steel new-generation train units from PT INKA (Persero) until the end of 2026. To date, 391 trains have been realised and are starting to be used to improve passenger journey comfort,” said Anne.
This service improvement aligns with the growth in passenger numbers. In the first quarter of 2026, KA Bangunkarta served 108,711 passengers, up from 100,703 in the same period the previous year. KA Singasari served 110,405 passengers, an increase from 97,008 in the first quarter of 2025.
This movement shows that trains remain a choice for various travel needs. The increasingly dynamic activities of the public are driving inter-regional mobility, while also opening access to various tourist destinations and economic centres along the routes.
Journey comfort is an important part of the customer experience. Through the new-generation stainless steel trainsets, passengers enjoy more ergonomic seating, more spacious legroom, and a more modern and fresh cabin atmosphere, especially for journeys of considerable duration.
This service quality improvement is also reflected in KAI’s Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) achievements, which continue to show a positive trend. In 2023, KAI’s CSI was recorded at 4.47, increasing to 4.52 in 2024, and rising again to 4.56 in 2025.
These figures illustrate that the changes made are increasingly felt by passengers in every journey.
Anne added that customer experience forms the basis for every service development.
“We continue to listen to customer feedback and incorporate it into our evaluations. From every journey, we understand what needs to be improved so that the next trip feels more comfortable,” explained Anne.
Through this enhancement, KAI is delivering journeys that are increasingly aligned with customer needs, while maintaining good inter-regional connectivity. Train travel becomes part of the public’s ongoing and growing activities.
“Every journey carries a story. KAI wants to ensure that passengers experience a comfortable, safe, and memorable journey from start to arrival at their destination,” Anne concluded.
