Today is Feb. 3, only 62 days before the general election on April 5.
Is there enough time to prepare for everything? Apparently not, as the General Elections Commission (KPU) only has 45 working days to complete all the work that remains for it to do.
The production of the ballot boxes, for instance, is supposed to be finished by Feb. 6, but there is still much to be done before the deadline can be met. The same is true with the ballot papers, ink and other things that are necessary for the elections.
The success of the elections, for a population of 220 million, is not only assessed through ballot boxes and papers but also through public participation. Lack of such participation could foil even the most well-prepared election.
Why? Because of the obscurity of the new election system, which the KPU has yet to properly publicize.
From the point of view of time, the general election is at a critical juncture. Too many important things have yet to be done.
The KPU should not hesitate to ask for assistance from others who could work in isolated areas. For our part, we should not leave the KPU to do all the work alone.
