JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Gerindra party will hold an ethics hearing for Jember DPRD member Achmad Syahri Assidiqi on Friday (15/5/2026) at 2:00 PM.

The hearing follows the widespread circulation of a video showing Syahri playing games and smoking during a meeting to discuss stunting and public health.

“Yes, that’s correct. The hearing will be held today at 2:00 PM in the Ethics Committee or Party Tribunal Room,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party Ethics Committee, Habiburokhman, on Friday.

Habiburokhman stated that he will personally lead the hearing as Chairman of the Party Ethics Committee.

The results of the decision will also be announced and finalized on Friday.

According to a summons letter from the Gerindra Party’s Central Executive Board received by Kompas.com, Achmad Syahri is being called in for questioning regarding the viral video showing him playing games and smoking during a hearing. In the letter, numbered 05-012/A/MK-GERINDRA/2026, Syahri is asked to attend the Party Ethics Committee hearing on Friday at 2:00 PM.

In addition, Syahri is also asked to bring witnesses and evidence related to the questioning.

For information, the video of Achmad Syahri Assidiqi, a member of Commission D of the Jember DPRD from the Gerindra faction, went viral on social media.

In the video, Syahri appears to be playing a game, allegedly Clash of Clans, while holding a cigarette during the meeting.

The Chairman of the Jember DPRD, Ahmad Halim, had previously conveyed an apology for the actions of the council member.

“We, on behalf of the leadership of the DPRD, convey our apologies, and we will process this because it also concerns the ethics of the institution,” said Halim on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

According to Halim, the matter will be processed through the Jember DPRD’s Ethics Committee because it is considered to not reflect the ethics and discipline of legislative members.

He said that Syahri could also face administrative sanctions if he is found to have violated the code of conduct for council members.

In addition to being processed in the Jember DPRD, Halim said that Gerindra would also follow up on the matter internally.

“If we are from the party, we will certainly take action against the member through reprimands or administrative sanctions or disciplinary sanctions regarding membership in the party,” said Halim.
