Today, BMKG Forecasts Several Major Cities to Experience Rain
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) forecasts that the weather in major cities across Indonesia will generally be dominated by light to moderate rain on Sunday (17/5/2026).
BMKG forecaster Diah Ayu, in an online broadcast followed from Jakarta, reported that cities in Sumatra such as Medan, Padang, Bengkulu, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Palembang, and Lampung have the potential for light to moderate rain. Meanwhile, Aceh and Pekanbaru will be cloudy.
“For Java Island, light to moderate rain is forecast across major cities such as Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya,” said Diah Ayu.
Furthermore, in the Bali region, Mataram and Kupang are expected to experience light rain. In Kalimantan Island, light to moderate rain is likely to occur in Samarinda, Palangkaraya, and Pontianak. Rain accompanied by lightning should also be watched out for in Banjarmasin and Tanjung Selor.
For the Sulawesi region, heavy rain accompanied by lightning is expected in Manado, Gorontalo, and Ternate. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain has the potential to occur in Makassar, Palu, Mamuju, and Kendari.
Finally, in the eastern part of Indonesia, BMKG stated that the weather will generally be dominated by light to moderate rain in cities such as Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya, and Merauke. She reminded the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather that may occur at any time.
