Today, BMKG Assists in Crescent Moon Observation at 37 Locations; Decision Awaits Isbat Session

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) will conduct hilal observations related to the determination of 1 Shawwal at 37 locations across Indonesia on Thursday, 19 March 2026.

“BMKG will carry out hilal observations using the BMKG Hilal Telescope at 37 locations throughout Indonesia on 19 March 2026,” stated the Instagram account @infobmkg on Thursday.

The results of the hilal calculations and observations conducted by BMKG will subsequently be reported to the organisers of the Isbat Session.

BMKG emphasises that the hilal information provided by BMKG serves as guidance for those conducting hilal observations.

Regarding the determination of 1 Shawwal, the decision will be announced by the Isbat Session held by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

This is because BMKG does not issue statements regarding the determination of 1 Shawwal 1447 Hijriah prior to an announcement from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“The official decision awaits the outcome of the Isbat Session organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs,” he said.

For information, the Isbat Session to determine 1 Shawwal 1447 Hijriah or Eid al-Fitr 2026 is being held this Thursday evening.

The Isbat Session will take place at the Auditorium HM Rasjidi, Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta.
