Tobacco to Coal Companies Contribute the Largest Tax Payments in Early 2026

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Tax payments from several major business sectors in Indonesia rose until the end of the first quarter of 2026, or precisely until the end of March 2026.

This performance supported tax revenue until 31 March 2026 at Rp 394.8 trillion, or a growth of 20.7% compared to the realisation on 31 March 2025, which was Rp 327 trillion.

“The majority of major sectors with significant contributions to tax revenue recorded solid growth in the first quarter of 2026,” said Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa at the Commission XI DPR meeting room, Jakarta, on Monday (6/4/2026).

The first sector with rapid tax payment growth until the end of March 2026 was the processing industry with a value of Rp 84.2 trillion and a contribution to tax revenue of 21.3%. The processing industry tax payment value grew 11.5% year-on-year.

This double-digit growth in processing industry tax payments was supported by the tobacco processing subsector and the chemical goods processing subsector due to business line expansions.

Secondly, the trade sector with a value of Rp 103.6 trillion or 26.2% of total tax payments. That value experienced significant growth, namely 59.9% year-on-year compared to March 2025.

The main trigger for the increase in state tax revenue from the trade sector was due to the rise in the large-scale fuel trade subsector and online trade in line with the increasing trend of online shopping among the public.

The third sector with rising tax revenue was mining, by 6.3% with a value of Rp 32.9 trillion and a contribution of 8.3%. Primarily triggered by a decrease in refunds, especially coal mining.

Lastly, the financial and insurance sector managed to pay taxes worth Rp 50.7 trillion by the end of March 2026 with 7.6% year-on-year growth and a contribution of 12.8%. Caused by the financial services support activities subsector which performed well.

“So there is indeed a significant improvement in economic activity,” said Purbaya.
