In anticipation of rising food prices during the month of Ramadan, the Toba Regency Government held an Affordable Food Programme (GPM) in Parsuratan Village, Balige District, on Thursday (26/2).

The GPM offers various essential food items, including 5 kg packages of rice at Rp58,000, sugar at Rp15,000/kg, cooking oil at Rp13,000/litre, eggs at Rp48,000/tray, red chillies at Rp30,000/kg, red onions at Rp25,000/kg, garlic at Rp30,000/kg, and tomatoes at Rp12,000/kg.

Vice Regent of Toba, Audi Murphy O. Sitorus, stated that the GPM aims to anticipate price increases ahead of the religious holidays.

“We buy these items for our own consumption, not for resale. Therefore, each resident has a purchase limit to prevent hoarding and ensure everyone can benefit,” said Audi.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Toba DPRD, Franshendrik Tambunan, expressed his appreciation for the Toba Regency Government’s implementation of the GPM ahead of the religious holidays. He stated that the legislative body strongly supports the programme.

“We at the DPRD fully support this. We thank the Toba Regency Government for implementing such a programme. Let us enhance this programme and implement it more frequently to help our community,” said Franshendrik. (AP/E-4)
