REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN — Iran and Turkey have engaged in tense contact to discuss the war in the Middle East triggered by the Zionist Israel-United States aggression against Tehran. The foreign ministers of both countries, Abbas Araghchi and Hakan Fidan, via telephone connection on Monday (23/3/2026), discussed ways to avoid further tensions between Iran and its Arab Muslim neighbouring countries in the volatile region.

Iran’s news agency IRNA reported that Abbas Araghchi conveyed to Hakan Fidan about the Zionist-US forcing Iran into the arena of war. Iran’s actions, Araghchi told Fidan, constitute self-defence against Zionist-US aggression.

“The crimes committed by the aggressors (Zionist-US) against Iran and our people, especially attacking schools, hospitals, and residential areas, have determined Iran to retaliate in order to maintain sovereignty,” Araghchi told Fidan.

Araghchi also informed Fidan that Iran had no choice but to retaliate against Zionist-US aggression by also targeting areas in Arab countries used as US military bases to attack Iran.

“That Iran’s actions against the bases and military facilities of the aggressors in the region constitute the inherent right of a state in self-defence and preserving national existence,” Araghchi stated. He continued that the anger of the Arab countries towards Iran is the same as Tehran’s disappointment with those Gulf countries.

Because, Araghchi told Fidan, those Arab countries, which are also based on the same Islamic principles as the Islamic Republic of Iran, should not allow the US to build military bases and use them to attack and bombard Tehran.

Moreover, Araghchi said, the anger of those Arab leaders is the same as Iran’s disappointment over the bias of those Islam-based Arab countries that support the stance of Zionist Israel, which is hostile to Iran.

Araghchi emphasised that Iran does not accept the attitude of the leaders of the Arab countries who allow the Islamic region to be used as a territory to isolate and attack the people and government in Tehran.

“We (Iran) deeply regret that the territory of those Islamic countries is misused by the United States and the Zionist Israeli regime to carry out attacks against Iran as their own brother and neighbour,” Araghchi said.
