JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa met with global investors in New York and Washington DC, United States. The meetings discussed Indonesia’s economic conditions and the direction of fiscal policy. Several major investors attended the meetings, including HSBC Global Asset Management, Lazard Asset Management, BlackRock, Lord Abbett, and TD Asset Management. Purbaya explained the macroeconomic fundamentals and future fiscal strategies, aiming to strengthen investor confidence in the government’s policy direction. “Essentially, we explained the economic conditions and our future fiscal strategies, so they are confident that our fiscal movements or policies are on the right track,” Purbaya said in an official statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026). “They intend to invest in Indonesia. So some explanations were given to them to ensure that their doubts about Indonesia can be cleared,” Purbaya stated. He assessed that the doubts do not stem from economic fundamentals. Investors want to confirm the current conditions and policy stability. “So they (investors) are not doubtful, but they hear noise that our fiscal is problematic, they confirm that it is not true,” he said. The government’s explanations were deemed acceptable. Investors see the fiscal policy in line with economic principles. Purbaya also received input regarding communication. Investors asked the government to be more active in explaining economic conditions to the global market. “Regarding fiscal policy, they are already confident that the policy direction is correct, they think some international rating agencies are too quick to make changes to Indonesia’s rating, like giving a negative outlook, where the changes were made when the latest economic data is not yet complete,” he said. “We will continue to ensure the economy grows according to the targets we mentioned. If Indonesia can grow 5.5 percent in the first quarter and remains strong in the second quarter, this will immediately make them more confident to increase their investments in Indonesia,” Purbaya said. He emphasised the government’s focus on policy consistency. Implementation of programmes is key to maintaining market trust. “So we focus on ensuring that our policies are correct, the implementation is according to the design we made,” he concluded.
