To Tackle Drought in Kemalang, Klaten BPBD Has Distributed 2,040,000 Litres of Water as of Late July 2026

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Klaten Regency, Central Java, has distributed clean water assistance totalling 408 tanks, equivalent to 2,040,000 litres, to residents affected by drought up until the end of July 2026. The assistance has benefited 3,467 households, representing 11,455 individuals.

The water distribution programme is aimed at four drought-stricken villages located on the slopes of Mount Merapi in the Kemalang District, Klaten. The BPBD Klaten began the water dropping operations on 15 June 2026.

Anjung Darojati, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Klaten, stated on Sunday (2/8) that the drought has heavily impacted the villages of Tlogowatu, Tegalmulya, Kendalsari, and Sidorejo. Residents in these areas face significant difficulties in accessing clean water for their daily needs every dry season.

According to Anjung, the distribution breakdown includes 112 tanks for Tlogowatu, 111 tanks for Tegalmulyo, 70 tanks for Kendalsari, and 115 tanks for Sidorejo. To manage the current dry season, BPBD Klaten has prepared a budget of 500 million IDR from the 2026 Regional Budget (APBD) to facilitate the distribution of up to 1,000 water tanks.

Simultaneously, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Klaten Regency commenced its first water distribution in Dukuh Geneng Kidul, Tegalmulyo Village, on Saturday (1/8). Purwanto Anggono Cipto, Chairman of PMI Klaten, noted that the distribution is a humanitarian effort funded by the PMI Fundraising Month and public donations.

To ensure the continued availability of clean water, the government intends to accelerate distribution through coordinated efforts between the BPBD, the Regional Water Utility Company (Perumda Air Minum), the River Basin Organisation (BBWS), and the PMI.
