To tackle the congestion that has long frequently occurred on the national road, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Tangerang City, the Tangerang City Government (Pemkot Tangerang) together with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) will carry out the construction of a Flyover or Simpang Tidak Sebidang (STS) around Tanah Tinggi Station, Tangerang City.

Moreover, to accelerate the construction process, Pemkot Tangerang has begun preparing Traffic Management and Engineering (MRLL) with a new scheme. ‘We have started coordinating with several parties to finalise the plan for the construction of this flyover,’ said Achmad Suhaely, Head of the Tangerang City Department of Transport (Dinas Perhubungan - Dishub), on Wednesday (20/5).

As a result of the coordination, he further stated, they will soon close the grade crossing from the direction of Jalan Raya Daan Mogot to Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and Jalan Benteng Betawi (Tanah Tinggi Station) permanently.

Around the location or Pasar Induk Tanah Tinggi, a one-way loop will be created from Jalan Raya Daan Mogot to the Tangerang City Government’s Puspem at Jalan Satria Sudirman. The same will be implemented in front of Plaza Benteng Betawi on Jalan Sudirman towards Jalan Benteng Betawi.

In addition, Suharly explained, there are several other intersections that will adopt new traffic schemes, such as on Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari or towards Ciledug. However, for these route changes, road widening is required, so coordination with the Banten Provincial Government must come first, given that the roads are under provincial authority.

‘We will immediately coordinate with Pemprov Banten to discuss the matter,’ he said.

To ensure the flyover can be built quickly in accordance with the plan, which is the first half of 2027, Suharly added. The structural development is about 600 metres long.

The flyover is expected to ease congestion caused by railway crossings. ‘Almost every five minutes a train passes, causing long traffic jams on the strategic route,’ he said.

The programme is being rolled out as a strategic instrument to raise living standards of residents and to narrow economic disparities in the city’s peri-urban area surrounding the capital.

Pemkot Tangerang also provides administrative convenience in the form of free Building Permit (PBG) for beneficiaries.
