According to data from the Central Java Provincial Health Office, these cases are distributed across districts including 501 in Kudus Regency, 202 in Brebes, 119 in Cilacap, 72 in Pati, 54 in Klaten, and other areas.

Of this total, 144 cases have been laboratory-confirmed as positive for measles and 18 for rubella. The highest concentrations of confirmed measles cases are in Cilacap Regency with 21 cases, Banyumas with 20, Pati with 20, and Klaten with 6 measles cases and 1 rubella.

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi stated that measles is one of the top priorities for handling in collaboration with regency and city governments.

“We are in Klaten to check on the measles vaccination, which is now a focus in Central Java. We have conducted early detection in several regencies and cities,” Luthfi said during his inspection of a measles immunisation programme at Klaten Tengah Community Health Centre in Klaten Regency, quoted from a press release on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

Luthfi explained that efforts to intensify measles immunisation are being carried out simultaneously with regency and city health offices. The goal is to prevent further spread or outbreaks.

During his inspection, Luthfi also urged the public with children to complete their vaccinations promptly. He called on the community to be more attentive to symptoms observed in children and to take preventive measures. For instance, if signs such as red rashes and fever are noticed, they should immediately seek examination at the nearest doctor or community health centre.

“Prevention must be massive, and people should adopt healthy lifestyles and nutritious diets,” Luthfi said.

To accelerate measles immunisation, the Central Java Provincial Government will integrate it with the mobile specialist doctor (Speling) programme and Free Health Check (CKG) initiatives, which have reached villages.

“Measles is a top priority, along with other diseases like tuberculosis (TB), which is also a national priority. The hope is for a healthy society,” Luthfi stated.

Head of the Prevention and Disease Control Division of the Central Java Health Office, Heri Purnomo, said that suspected measles cases are mostly found in children. However, adults with low immunity can also be affected.

“The most important prevention is immunisation. If ill, use masks, isolate, and maintain distance. Also, adopt healthy lifestyles and consume foods that boost immunity,” Heri explained.

One resident, Kiki Kumala, said the measles immunisation activity is very important for children. This is the second immunisation for her nearly four-month-old child.

“We can only support and assist the government’s programmes, especially since this is free. Hopefully, in the future, there will be better support for child health,” Kiki said after taking her child for immunisation.
