To Strengthen the Halal Ecosystem in Border Regions, BPJPH to Establish a Technical Implementation Unit in West Kalimantan
BPJPH continues to strengthen the national halal ecosystem, including in border areas. One strategic step being prepared is the plan to establish a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of BPJPH in Kalimantan Barat (Kalbar). The plan emerged when BPJPH Secretary of the Principal (Sestama) Muhammad Aqil Irham conducted a working visit to the West Kalimantan Governor’s Office on Thursday (5 March 2026). During the visit, Aqil was received directly by West Kalimantan’s Secretary of Regional Government (Sekda) Harisson to discuss the plan to establish the BPJPH UPT in the region. Therefore, strengthening halal services infrastructure in the region is an important part of the national halal industry development strategy. “Border regions are Indonesia’s front porch. The products circulated there are not only consumed by local communities, but also have the potential to reach cross-border markets. Therefore, strengthening the halal ecosystem in border areas is a strategic step to increase the competitiveness of national products,” Aqil said in a press release on Thursday. He noted that the plan to establish the BPJPH UPT in Kalbar also aims to bring halal certification services closer to communities and business actors. In addition, the presence of the UPT in the region is expected to strengthen synergy with regional governments (pemda), the LP3H, universities, and other stakeholders in building a more inclusive and sustainable halal ecosystem. West Kalimantan has a strategic geographical position because it borders Malaysia directly, making the strengthening of the halal ecosystem in this region important to support the competitiveness of Indonesian halal products in the regional area. Through these efforts, BPJPH hopes more border-area entrepreneurs obtain halal certificates, enabling local products to expand more widely, increasing consumer trust, and opening opportunities for expansion into larger markets.
