JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Directorate General of Sea Transportation (Ditjen Hubla) of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) is strengthening digital services in the remote, outermost, underdeveloped, and border regions (3TP) through the utilisation of satellite technology. This step is marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Class III Korido Port Organising Unit Office (UPP) and PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Director General of Sea Transportation Muhammad Masyhud stated that this collaboration represents a significant milestone as it is the first in the Ditjen Hubla environment to leverage satellite technology for the digitalisation of port offices, particularly in 3TP areas. He explained that network limitations have previously posed obstacles to ship administration reporting and port activities. Through the use of satellite technology, these challenges are expected to be overcome. “The tangible benefits of this system include the creation of maximum operational efficiency and real-time data transparency directly from the Pacific border to the national data centre,” he clarified. Head of the Class III Korido UPP Office, Willem Thobias Fofid, views this cooperation as a concrete step to address digital infrastructure limitations in border regions. He emphasised that strengthening digital sovereignty is a crucial aspect in managing maritime sector data. According to him, ship movement data, port activities, and sea transportation services are strategic national assets. “Ship movement data, port activities, and sea transportation services are strategic national assets that must be managed securely, in an integrated manner, and with sovereignty,” said Willem. “Through this cooperation, we hope the service system will become smoother without being hampered by network issues,” he added. Director of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, Heru Dwi Kartono, conveyed that his company is committed to supporting the digital transformation of the maritime sector through the provision of satellite infrastructure. “This cooperation is a strategic step for us in supporting digital transformation, particularly in the maritime sector and more specifically in improving the quality of port services in 3TP regions,” said Heru.
