Jakarta (ANTARA) - Perumda Pasar Jaya has officially launched five units of rubbish transport trucks at the Kramat Jati Main Market in East Jakarta, as an effort to improve waste management at one of Indonesia’s largest food distribution centres.

“Perumda Pasar Jaya is introducing five rubbish transport trucks, each with a capacity of 16 cubic metres, as a concrete step in waste management,” said the Director General of Perumda Pasar Jaya, Agus Himawan, during the launch of the rubbish trucks at the Kramat Jati Main Market in East Jakarta on Friday.

The launch is an effort to address the waste management challenges that have long been a primary issue at the market.

“The Kramat Jati Main Market is one of the largest and busiest markets in Jakarta, even in Indonesia. Every day, thousands of traders and millions of transactions take place here, making it the lifeline of the community’s economy,” Agus explained.

However, behind this high economic activity, the volume of waste produced daily is also very large.

If not handled optimally, this situation has the potential to create negative impacts on environmental cleanliness, visitor comfort, and the market’s image.

“This is not just a ceremony, but a real manifestation of our commitment together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in optimising the waste management system at the market,” Agus stated.

With the addition of this fleet, rubbish that previously often piled up in the corners of the market is now targeted to be transported routinely and promptly.

This quick waste collection is also believed to have a direct impact on traders and visitors, particularly in creating a cleaner and healthier market environment.

Agus added that the launch of this cleaning fleet is also part of Perumda Pasar Jaya’s transformation towards modern, clean, and highly competitive market management, in line with the directives of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

“We invite all parties to jointly maintain cleanliness, from disposing of rubbish in the proper places to supporting the operations of this fleet,” Agus said.

On that occasion, Agus also expressed appreciation to the board of supervisors, the management of Perumda Pasar Jaya, and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government for their support in realising this fleet.

He also did not forget to thank all the traders at the Kramat Jati Main Market who have been strategic partners in the market’s development.

Through this fleet launch, Agus hopes that waste management at the Kramat Jati Main Market will become more organised, thereby enhancing comfort, environmental health, and strengthening public trust in market management in Jakarta.

“Rubbish at the main market is now more orderly, thanks to the rubbish trucks ready to transport it,” Agus remarked.
