The Thousand Islands Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-Department (KPKP) has once again conducted free rabies vaccinations for 251 Rabies-Transmitting Animals (HPR) on Sabira Island in North Thousand Islands, as an effort to prevent the transmission of rabies. “This activity is part of the ongoing commitment of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in maintaining rabies-free status while improving animal welfare, particularly in coastal areas,” said the Head of the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-Department, Nurliati, in Jakarta on Monday. Her team focuses on ensuring environmental health is maintained through measured animal population control. According to her, rabies vaccination activities serve as the primary mitigation step to protect the public from this deadly disease. In addition to vaccinations, the Thousand Islands KPKP Sub-Department also performed sterilisations to prevent surges in the stray cat population that could disrupt ecosystem balance and environmental aesthetics. Based on field data, 77 cats were successfully sterilised, consisting of 31 male cats and 46 female cats. Furthermore, 174 other cats received rabies vaccinations. Meanwhile, the Chairman of RW 03 on Sabira Island, Muhammad Ali Kurniawan, assessed that this programme, held routinely every year, has a positive impact on residents, particularly in maintaining environmental cleanliness and comfort. “We greatly appreciate the government’s attention to animal health on Sabira Island, and this activity makes residents feel more at ease.” Ali also urged residents to continue supporting the government programme by proactively reporting the health conditions of their pets. “I invite residents to be more caring and not commit acts of violence against animals,” he said.
