To Prevent Measles, Bekasi City Health Office Intensifies Catch-Up Immunisation Campaign

The Bekasi City Health Service (Dinkes) is intensifying the catch-up campaign (CUC) for measles, or supplementary immunisation. This step is taken to catch up with children who have not yet received complete immunisation to increase group immunity (herd immunity) in the local area.

The Head of the Bekasi City Health Service, Satia Sriwijayanti Anggraini, emphasised that the current immunisation implementation is a pursuit of routine immunisation status, not a response to a case explosion.

“For now, Bekasi City is conducting CUC, not ORI (outbreak response immunisation),” said Satia in her statement in Bekasi, quoted on Wednesday (8/4).

Satia explained that outbreak response immunisation (ORI), or special immunisation, is only carried out if an area has entered the category of an Extraordinary Event (KLB). To date, no indications of a measles KLB have been found in Bekasi City.

According to her, ORI serves as emergency handling to quickly break the chain of disease transmission. In KLB status, MR immunisation is given three times regardless of previous immunisation status.

The CUC programme in Bekasi City is part of a series leading up to World Immunisation Week 2026. This activity is integrated with a local programme titled Sepekan Mengejar Imunisasi (Penari).

“The measles CUC in Bekasi City has been running since the second week of March until 12 April, alongside the one-week catch-up immunisation programme (Penari) in preparation for World Immunisation Week 2026,” Satia concluded.
