To Prevent Illegal Hajj, DPR-Imipas Supervisory Team Strengthens Coordination
The House of Representatives (DPR) and the DPR Hajj Supervisory Team will tighten immigration supervision to prevent the departure of illegal Hajj pilgrims during this year’s Hajj season. Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian DPR, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, stated that his side has coordinated with the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) to implement this tightening. The statement was delivered after the Coordination Meeting of the DPR RI Hajj Supervisory Team (Timwas) at the Nusantara II Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (13/5/2026). “Well, it was also conveyed earlier that Commission XIII has communicated with the Ministry of Imipas because the border is at immigration. If immigration truly tightens, there will be no loopholes for people to go to Saudi without reason,” Cucun told Parlementaria. Cucun added that the practice of departing using non-Hajj visas must be completely closed through strengthened supervision at all Indonesian international airports. “The key is in our immigration. At every immigration service office, especially international airports, it must be locked tight, closed, no one can slip through to go to Saudi,” he said. He appreciated the commitment of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas), which is said to have strengthened coordination with the Ministry of Hajj to close gaps in illegal departures. “If previously there were still opportunities for people to play around with immigration in various ways, now, alhamdulillah, the Minister of Imipas yesterday committed that there will be no loopholes at all,” he emphasised. Cucun also viewed the Saudi Arabian government’s step to tighten access to Raudhah and other worship areas as a positive measure to prevent the misuse of entry permits. “Yes, that’s why now the Saudi government is implementing no more muassasah to prepare tasreh for entering Raudhah because that was misused, for example, by people who could buy it,” he said. Finally, he urged Indonesians in Saudi Arabia not to engage in illegal practices that promise worship access outside official government procedures. “Please stop these kinds of practices, especially our people there,” he concluded.
