The Indonesian Real Estate Developers Association (REI) has stressed that the construction of any housing project must follow strict regulations and permitting requirements to ensure problems such as flooding do not occur. “In fact, every housing development has strict rules and permitting requirements, so issues like flooding should not happen,” said REI Chairman Joko Suranto in Bandarlampung on Wednesday. He explained that flooding problems that frequently occur are usually due to drainage systems outside the housing areas, which are not under the developers’ authority. “Therefore, the key is good urban planning. Developers are also ready to be involved in the planning process to contribute optimally,” he said. Meanwhile, Bandarlampung Mayor Eva Dwiana hopes for better cooperation between the local government and developers, including REI, to find solutions to existing housing issues to prevent flooding. “Bandarlampung has great potential, so good arrangement will yield optimal results. However, currently, many housing projects are found that do not match the submitted permit data,” she said. According to her, there are still many housing projects built without adequate drainage systems. This causes many housing areas in Bandarlampung to be affected by flooding. “As a result, several building permits are currently being held while evaluations are conducted. It is hoped that with collaboration between the government and businesspeople, housing development can proceed according to the rules and provide benefits to the community. The success of developers is the success of the region, and vice versa,” she said.
