To prevent accidents, guards stationed at PAM Jaya excavation site in Condet
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint security team is stationed around the excavation owned by Perumda PAM Jaya on Jalan Raya Batu Ampar, Batu Ampar Ward, Kramat Jati Sub-district, East Jakarta, to prevent motorcyclists from falling into the trench.
‘Kramat Jati Sub-district mobilised a joint team to anticipate incidents of motorcyclists falling into that PAM Jaya excavation site,’ said Ali Mansur Siregar, the Deputy Camat of Kramat Jati, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Ali noted that incidents of motorcyclists falling into the trench could occur due to minimal security at the project site.
Based on field monitoring, no officers or warning signs were found around the excavation area, thereby endangering road users, especially at night.
The sub-district authorities also coordinated with several related entities such as Polsek Kramat Jati, the Transportation Agency via the Satpel (Satuan Pelaksana) of the Kramat Jati District, and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) regarding security around the excavation area.
The joint team is on standby to assist with security, particularly during peak hours, to prevent accidents.
Moreover, the sub-district has also communicated directly with Perumda PAM Jaya as the contractor for the excavation works.
In the coordination, PAM Jaya agreed to promptly add warning signage at the project site.
They also requested that the signs be installed no later than Thursday (5 March) so that passers-by, especially at night, can be more alert to the presence of the excavation on the road.
‘We ask that by Thursday (5 March) at the latest the signs are installed so that residents passing at night can stay vigilant,’ he said.
Ali hopes that with the addition of signage and oversight from the joint team, the potential for accidents due to the excavation project can be minimised.
‘Staying safe and ensuring road users’ comfort remains a priority,’ Ali added.
Meanwhile, one motorcyclist, Zaka (30), said congestion has worsened when there is an excavation that has lasted more than a week.
‘The congestion exists every morning and evening even without the excavation, and it’s worse with it. It’s been over a week now; the traffic is severely congested, causing me stress when going to work,’ he said.
He hopes the excavation around Condet can be completed quickly so as not to add to road congestion.
