To Keep Canggu Green, Badung Regency Government Plants Trees and Increases Green Open Space

The Badung Regency Government is striving to keep Canggu green amidst rapid tourism development. This effort is being implemented through the addition of green open spaces (RTH) and tree planting in the Batu Mejan area.

This initiative was realised through a tree-planting action along the Batu Mejan Road corridor in Canggu Village, North Kuta. Accompanied by the Chairperson of the Badung Regency TP PKK, Mrs Rasniathi Adi Arnawa, the action aims to increase green open space to restore the ecological function of the increasingly dense tourism area.

The tree planting took place on Friday (4/9) and was led directly by the Regent of Badul, I Wayan Adi Arnawa. The planting of vegetation is projected not only to enhance the aesthetics of the main road corridor but also to serve as a natural barrier to reduce air pollution and create a more pleasant and cool microclimate for the area.

Adi Arnawa emphasised that economic growth from the tourism sector must not sacrifice environmental resilience. The blueprint for developing strategic areas must place the principle of sustainability as the primary foundation.

“The development and arrangement of the Canggu area must proceed in harmony with environmentally conscious principles. Planting trees along the edges of Batu Mejan Road is not just for visual aesthetics, but is also a form of long-term investment to ensure this area remains comfortable, cool, and sustainable,” said Adi Arnawa in his statement on Thursday (10/9/2026).

Through a balanced integration of physical development and vegetation conservation, the Canggu area is expected to grow into a world-class tourist destination without losing its natural, shaded identity. Interestingly, this ecological commitment is also accompanied by efforts to address visual pollution that has long disturbed the natural landscape.

“I have also instructed the Head of the Badung Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR) to immediately organise the cluttered utility networks along this area. The arrangement of strategic areas like Canggu should not only focus on the reliability of physical infrastructure but must also integrate with greening principles,” added Adi Arnawa.

This collaborative action has triggered a positive response from the community and business actors in the Batu Mejan area. The enrichment of biodiversity in this public space is expected to serve as a nature-based solution to face environmental challenges in one of Bali’s busiest tourism hubs.

For information, this greening movement was also overseen by Badung Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member I Made Suryananda Pramana, relevant Heads of Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD) within the Badung Regency Government, North Kuta Sub-district Head I Nyoman Tirtayasa along with the Sub-district Tripika elements, and the Village Head of Canggu, I Wayan Suarya, who attended alongside village officials and local community leaders.
