To Fulfil Public Demand, Sunda Cultural Procession Stops in Garut
The Kirab Budaya Napak Tilas Padjadjaran, Milangkala Tatar Sunda, stopped in Garut Regency. The Sancang Lugay procession moved from Korem 062 and ended at Gedung Bale Dewa Niskala on Tuesday night (5/5/2026).
Garut Regency became an additional stop in this cultural procession to fulfil the requests of Garut residents after they witnessed the excitement of similar processions in Sumedang, Ciamis, and Tasikmalaya Regencies. After the release ceremony at 19.30 WIB, the Sancang Lugay procession in Garut Regency began.
Residents of Garut Regency lined the route of the procession, which passed through Jalan Bratayuda and Jalan A Yani for about 1.7 kilometres. Many residents also joined the walk from the starting point until arriving at Bale Dewa Niskala, which took about 30 minutes.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi rode a white horse named Victoria. Victoria is a horse born in Parongpong, Lembang, now aged 13 years.
Behind Victoria, the Kereta Kencana Ki Jaga Rasa carrying the Mahkota Binokasih was pulled by four white horses. It was followed by two golden carriages, namely Kereta Kencana Nyimas Melati and Kereta Kencana Ki Jaka Sunda.
The entourage continued with the Riding Horse of the Garut Regent and the Riding Horse of the Deputy Regent of Garut.
About half an hour into the journey, the Governor arrived on stage to greet the waiting public. Then, together they watched arts performances representing arts studios from 27 regencies/cities in West Java.
“There is no magic in the arts performance; not getting hurt by whipping is not because of magic but due to training and techniques learned. There is no possession. Anyone can do it as long as they train regularly; if whipped, they will be strong,” said KDM commenting on the arts attraction from West Bandung Regency which received appreciation from the audience, as quoted on Friday (8/5/2026).
The Kirab Budaya Napak Tilas Padjadjaran continues to Cianjur on Wednesday night (6/5/2026).
