Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (KPw BI) DKI Jakarta is organising the Jakarta Youth Film Festival (JYFF) 2026 as part of efforts to foster the creative industry sector, particularly film, in the capital city that aspires to be a cinema city.

Head of KPw BI DKI Jakarta, Iwan Setiawan, in Jakarta on Wednesday, said that to nurture the creative industry sector, particularly film, BI DKI Jakarta is holding JYFF 2026, and this is the first festival to support new economic growth in Jakarta.

“JYFF was launched in February, and this festival is being held for the first time,” Iwan said.

According to him, the creative industry, particularly film, can trigger new economic growth in Jakarta, especially considering that the youth population in Jakarta reaches 50 percent, so they need to be directed to compete in the creative economy sector.

He said JYFF 2026 was born from an academic and empirical study, with the belief that film can trigger new economic growth in Jakarta, which has a multiplier effect.

“We conducted an academic study at the Jakarta Economic Forum that endogenous growth theory, one of the creative economy branches, namely film. After studying it, it is very powerful,” Iwan stated.

Furthermore, he explained that JYFF is also a collaboration between BI DKI Jakarta and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to promote the vision of Jakarta as a Cinema City.

In the future, synergy between Bank Indonesia, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and all elements of the pentahelix in DKI Jakarta will continue to be strengthened to build a sustainable creative economy ecosystem.

The kick-off of JYFF 2026 was held on 3 February, and the registration deadline is open until 30 April. There are approximately 230 works registered in the festival.
