A friend has told me that she has many troubles in her marriage and would like to get a divorce from her husband. However, she cannot afford to file her request at the South Jakarta religious court because she has to pay them Rp 700,000. When she asked why the fee was so high, she was told that it was just what the regulations said.

Can the religious affairs ministry intervene in this matter so that filing a request for a divorce will not be so expensive? When a marriage can no longer be maintained, a divorce is needed. Otherwise, marriage disharmony may lead a husband or wife to kill his or her spouse. Logically, setting a high fee for any filing of a request for a divorce will only increase crime rate.
