East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) has installed three floodlights again to increase illumination in the Cawang City Forest Park area in order to deter immoral acts at night. ‘The lighting upgrade involved installing three floodlights to improve visibility and safety in the area at night,’ said Yanuar Ikhsan, Head of the Infrastructure, Facilities, Utilities and Public Street Lighting Section of the East Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-Department (Sudin Bina Marga Jakarta Timur), reported by Antara on Friday, 6 March 2026. He noted that the floodlights were installed to provide more optimal illumination in the city park area, which had previously been deemed poorly lit. The three floodlights comprise two units of 240 watts each and one unit of 120 watts. The lights were positioned to reach areas that previously received insufficient illumination. ‘So that it is brighter and can prevent negative behaviours at night. After the trees were pruned, the lighting also became more optimal,’ he said. He added that with the additional floodlights, the Cawang City Forest Park area is now brighter and can provide a sense of safety for people passing through or engaging in activities around the site. 30 Trees Pruned. In addition to the lighting, illumination optimisation was supported by tree pruning carried out by the East Jakarta Department of Parks and Urban Forests (Sudin Pertamanan dan Hutan Kota Jakarta Timur). The pruning was undertaken to ensure the light from the floodlights is not obstructed by dense trees. Head of Green Corridors and Cemeteries Section of Sudin Pertamanan dan Hutan Kota Jakarta Timur, Made Widhi Adnyana Surya Pratita, explained that 30 densely foliated trees in the Cawang City Forest Park area had been pruned. ‘This pruning is not only to anticipate potential fallen trees but also to ensure the floodlight illumination reaches the entire area optimally,’ he said. The pruning took place from 27 February to 1 March 2026, involving 14 personnel from the Green Task Force. Officials also deployed one ladder truck and one open-back truck to support the pruning process and the transportation of the cut branches. With the addition of floodlights and tree management, the Cawang City Forest Park area is expected to be brighter, safer and more comfortable for the public, especially at night. Earlier, officers found several contraceptive devices and liquor bottles in the Cawang City Forest Park area. While the context of their use could not be confirmed, the findings strengthened suspicions of activities not in keeping with the public space’s function. Ultimately, the East Jakarta City Government permanently closed two park entrances in the Cawang, Kebon Pala, Makasar area, amid suspicions that they were used as venues for same-sex prostitution at night.
